SCLG 2002 – The Beginning

 

The Southern California Leather Gathering (SCLG) is an outdoor picnic gathering that is open to ALL leather, bdsm, fetish, kink, motorcycle and bear groups, and individuals, of all genders and orientations.

 

Still fondly referred to as, “Leather Day in the Park,” SCLG was founded by slave pug with the aim of providing an opportunity for bdsm and leather folk to interact in a relaxed atmosphere, have fun and raise awareness about the size and diversity of the leather/bdsm groups within Southern California.

 

The actual idea of the picnic was first suggested when slave pug, inspired by an online discussion, mused about a "Leather Day in the Park" in a message she posted to the BDSM_West Yahoo message group in January, 2002.  Tremendous support and assistance was offered from others on that message board, which gave slave pug the impetus to move forward with planning the event. 

 

With the help and support of numerous people, the first SCLG took place on Saturday June 8, 2002 at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas and had approximately 290 attendees.

SCLG 2003 – The Gathering Grows

The second annual Southern California Leather Gathering (SCLG) took place at BonelliRegional Park in San Dimas, California on September 20, 2003.

 

SCLG is an outdoor picnic gathering that is open to ALL Southern California leather, bdsm, fetish, kink, motorcycle and bear groups, and individuals, of all genders and orientations. SCLG was founded by Master Steve Sampson’s slave pug in 2002 with the aim of providing an opportunity for bdsm and leather folk to interact in a relaxed atmosphere, have fun and raise awareness about the size and diversity of the leather/bdsm groups within Southern California.

 

Over 120 people, from all segments of the leather and bdsm realm, attended SCLG 2003. A number of organizations set up shelters and hung banners/colors identifying the groups they represented. Attendees wandered between the various groups to meet, mingle, socialize and learn more about one another.

 

Some fierce competition was observed during the tug-o'war match as serious tuggin' and yanking tested the strength of the huge game rope. The three-legged races included a new twist: moving human obstacles diving and tumbling in front of the race teams. The balloon toss was especially enjoyed by the participants as most of the balloons ended up being aimed at the event’s emcee Dan O'Leary (Mr. Long Beach Leather Bear 2003)! A wet bear is a good thing!
